Michigan State Takes to The Road For Pair of Road Matches

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women’s tennis team takes to the road this weekend as they continue Big Ten play against Maryland and Rutgers. MSU will travel to College Park, Md. to face Maryland on Friday, April 7, with the match set to begin at 3 p.m. MSU will then face Rutgers on Sunday, April 9, with the match set to begin at 12 p.m.

Michigan State is coming off a successful weekend of Big Ten play at home after defeating Minnesota, 5-2 and Wisconsin, 4-0. The Spartans improved to 14-4 on the season and 4-1 against Big Ten opponents extending their win streak to four consecutive matches.

Spartans Fall to Maryland, 5-2
Michigan State dropped its first of two weekend contests on Saturday, April 9, falling to Maryland, 5-2, at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. MSU is now 9-9 overall and 1-5 in the Big Ten, while the Terripans improve to 8-9 on the season and 4-4 in conference play.

MSU Women’s Tennis Stops Rutgers, 5-2, Sunday
Michigan State women’s tennis team completed a two-match homestand with a 5-2 victory over Rutgers Sunday at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. The Spartans halted a four-match losing streak with the win.

Michigan State holds a 41-40 record in doubles play and they have secured the doubles point in all 14 victories this season. Samantha Memije and Athena Trouillot earned their team-best 14th doubles win. No. 73 Emily Metcalf and Davina Nguyen secured their fourth consecutive win to improve to 10-4 on the year.

As a team, MSU is 94-57 in singles play led by Trouillot, Nguyen and Aslina Chua, who all picked up their team-best 17th victories last weekend.

The Spartans are 2-0 all-time against Rutgers and 0-1 all-time in matches against Maryland as this will be the second meeting between the Spartans and the Terrapins. Maryland is 12-5 on the season, with a 3-3 record in conference play while Rutgers is 6-9 on the season and 1-5 in conference play.

Michigan State returns home next weekend to welcome Big Ten opponents Nebraska and Iowa. MSU will host Nebraska on Saturday, April 15 and will then face Iowa on Sunday, April 16. Both matches are set to begin at 12 p.m.
