Women's Tennis Travels to Illinois
Athletes will be sent to ITA Midwest Championships and the Second Chance Tournament.

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team travels to Champaign, Ill. for the ITA Midwest Championships Oct. 18-23 and to DeKalb, Ill. for the Second Chance Tournament Oct. 19-21. The Spartans will send Marina Bohrer, Catherine Parenteau, Olga Chernova, Katarina Lingl and Julianne Gruber to ITA’s. Michaela Silesova, Jennifer Yen, Emily Meyers and Nicole Herzog will represent Michigan State at the Second Chance tournament.
“We have been working hard to do well this weekend,” said head coach Simone Jardim. “We want to win some matches and give ourselves a chance to beat some good opponents. We are very capable of that and this weekend will be a good opportunity for that.”
Bohrer and Parenteau will compete in the main draw of both the singles and doubles at ITA’s, while Chernova, Lingl, and Gruber will compete in qualifying draws for singles. Lingl and Gruber will also team up in a doubles draw.
In the Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational, Bohrer and Parenteau fell in a finals consolation round, 9-8 (5), to Purdue in the Draw A Doubles. Bohrer placed second in Draw A Singles, falling to Purdue’s Tess Bernard Feigenbaum, 6-4, 6-3.
Teams competing in the ITA Midwest Championships include: Akron, Bowling Green, Cleveland State, DePaul, Detroit, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Green Bay, Illinois, Illinois State, Illinois Chicago, IPFW, IUPUI, Marquette, Michigan State, Michigan, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Toledo, Valparaiso, Western Michigan, Wisconsin and Youngstown State.
Qualifying Spartans will travel to the ITA National Indoors Nov. 2-4 for the final tournament of the fall season.
