EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State women's tennis head coach Simone Jardim will welcome one Spartan for the class of 2013.  The incoming class includes Athena Trouillot (Miami, Fla.) and Emmy Virkus (East Lansing, Mich.).

 

Athena Trouillot - Miami, Fla./MCA Academy

Before MSU: Competed under private coach Andres Barbosa...Named a five-star recruit on tennisrecruiting.com...Owns a career-high national ranking of No. 63...Currently holds the  No. 14 ranking in Florida...Named a singles quarterfinalist in the 2012 USTA Regional Tournament Segment Girls 18...Took third place in the 2012 North Florida Junior Designated Girls 18Placed in the quarterfinals in the 2012 USTA Regional Tournament Segment Girls 18...Titled doubles champion and reached the singles semifinals in the 2012 Academy Girls 18 Super Series...Won the singles bracket and reached the doubles finals in the 2012 Young Guns Girls 18 Super Series... 2012 BMW Girls 18 Super Series Champion...Finalist at the 2011 Winter Haven Super Series.

Personal:  Born June 10, 1995 to Jean-Pierre and Nathalie Trouillotin New York...Awarded the Principal's Award at MCA Academy twice... Received the 2011 Trailblazer of Excellence Award at MCA Academy...Achieved high academic Honors at MCA Academy 2009-12... Served as the student council president in 2011-12 and as the student council treasurer in 2012-13...Plans on majoring in psychology.

Before MSU: Will graduate from Haslett High School as four year letterwinner…Competed under head coach Henry Brunnschweiler…Named to the 2012 Lansing Dream Team Singles Roster...Recognized as 2012 CAAC Red and Division 3 regional champion...Named all-area Division 3-4 first team in 2010 and 2011..Named all-conference first team 2010-12…Led her high school to a fifth place finish in the 2011 MHSAA Division 3 Girls Tennis State Finals...Elected as captain in 2011...Boasts a No. 11 ranking in Michigan…First freshman to play No. 1 singles in school history…Totals an individual record of 48-12 and team record of 26-4-4.
