Jim Stintzi begins his second year with the women?s track and field program. Stintzi is also in his 17th year as the men?s cross country head coach and men?s track and field assistant coach. Stintzi also recently took over the helm of the women?s cross country team.

During his tenure at MSU, Stintzi has coached 24 All-Americans and 42 All-Big Ten performers in cross country and track, and earned Big Ten Coach of the Year honors twice. He also led the 1999 women?s cross country team to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 1981, earning a 14th-place finish. In 1998, Stintzi led his men?s cross country team to a second-place finish at the Big Ten Championships, MSU?s first ever Great Lakes Region Championship, and an appearance in the NCAA Championships.

Before coming to MSU in 1984, Stintzi coached at Northwestern, where he spent the 1983-84 season as a cross country and track assistant. He also served as a temporary track assistant at his alma mater, Wisconsin, from April through June of 1983.

A seven-time All-American at Wisconsin, Stintzi claimed six different Big Ten Championships as a Badger. His win in the 10,000 meters and runner-up performances in the 5,000 meters and the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 1981 Big Ten Championships earned him Athlete of the Championships honors. Stintzi was named captain of the Wisconsin cross country and track teams during his senior year.

Following his collegiate career, Stintzi was a member of four U.S. National track and field/cross country teams. In 1981, he was ranked sixth in the United States at 10,000 meters.

A native of Menomonee Falls, Wis., the 42-year-old Stintzi earned a bachelor?s degree from Wisconsin in 1981. He and his wife, Gail, reside in Okemos and have three children: Katie (18), David (15), and Daniel (11).
