MT. PLEASANT, Mich.- The Michigan State track and field teams competed at the Central Michigan Invite on Friday, Jan. 16, in Mt. Pleasant, Mich. The Spartans men's and women's teams finished in many top spots in their individual events. The women's team also took the 4x400 meter relay, while the men's team finished second.

The MSU women's track and field team won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:57.00 and placed four seniors in top spots. Senior Jamie Krzyminski (Corunna) took the one-mile run with a time of 5:01.25. Sarah Adelaine (Sr., Harbor Springs) won the weight throw with a toss of 58-05.75. Senior Sarah Pepera (Ortonville) took the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:02.04, while Sherita Williams (Sr., Tampa, Fla.) won the long jump with a leap of 19-01.50.
 

 

Also finishing in first place for State was sophomore Taren James (Long beach, Calif.), who took the triple jump with a leap of 39-10.50, and junior Mickie Rzepka (Novi), who won the pole vault with a toss of 12-06.25.

The Spartan men's track and field team placed two seniors in top spots at the CMU Invite. 2002 All-American Steve Sherer (Saline) took the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.69, while 2004 team captain Steve Manz (West Branch) won the shot put with a throw of 59-00.00.

Also finishing in first place for the Spartans was sophomore Mark Langlois (Fruitport), who captured the pole vault with a leap of 15-11.75.

Also competing for the Spartans and finishing in second place were junior Nathan Egger (Mason), who finished the one-mile run with a time of 4:25.14, junior John Karanja (Thika, Kenya) in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:24.62, senior Nathan Usher (Gregory) in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:40.75 and freshman Jason Brown (South Bend, Ind.) in the shot put with a toss of 53-01.50.

Michigan State will next compete at the Red Simmons Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 24 hosted by Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich.
