Media Day Set For Spartan Volleyball Team

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State volleyball team will be available for media interviews prior to practice Tuesday, Aug. 19, at Jenison Field House.

Head Coach Chuck Erbe and his players will be available from 2-2:45 p.m. Following the interview session, MSU will practice from 3-5 p.m.

The defending Big Ten champion Spartans are ranked No. 6 in the USA Today/AVCA preseason coaches poll. MSU is coming off a 26-7 record and its third-straight NCAA Tournament appearabce. The conference coaches selected MSU to finish second in the Big Ten preseason poll.

The Spartans return just six letterewinners from last season's team and welcome seven freshmen to the squad. MSU will be led by co-captains Corie Richard, a senior from Kentwood, and junior Jenna Wrobel of Naperville, Ill.

The setting duties will likely be taken over by freshman Vicki Basil of Bay City. The Spartan rookie replaces junior Julie Pavlus, who was forced to retire from volleyball due to injury.

Erbe's players will face off in a Green and White match on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 7 p.m. The Spartans open the regular season Aug. 29-30 when they host the annual Goff/MSU Volleyball Classic.
