Jenison Field House

The Michigan State volleyball team has played all of its home matches in historic Jenison Field House since 1993. Built in 1940, Jenison was the home of Spartan basketball until 1989 and is where Magic Johnson helped lead MSU to its NCAA Championship in 1979.

Jenison has undergone many changes in the last several years and is currently the home to MSU volleyball, men's and women's gymnastics, wrestling and men's and women's track and field.

For volleyball, the court runs North and South to accomodate 5,017 fans. A curtain that separates the South end of the Field House from the playing floor can be raised to accommodate more spectators.

MSU has two SportCourt volleyball courts, one for practice and one for matches. The court, which is gray, green and white, was redesigned last summer to include Spartan Volleyball along the sidelines, the new Michigan State logo and the Big Ten and NCAA logos along the baseline.

Other recent improvements include new scoreboards, improved lighting and a new public address system. In addition, the Spartan lockerroom was recently renovated. Player accomplishments are recognized above the lockers, while senior players are presented with a stool from the lockerroom with their name and years played on it.

Since moving to Jenison in 1993, the Spartan volleyball team has posted a 41-14 record in the facility, including an 18-0 mark last season in 1955 and a 13-2 record last season.

Fans attending Spartan volleyball matches are treated to a truly spectacular event. A computer generates sound affects to compliment the energetic and enthusiastic calls of public address announcer Tim Berkey. The Spartan volleyball blimp is a featured attraction, as well as Sparty, the MSU cheerleaders and promotional events between games two and three. Fans can also get into the action with the "Ace" and "Roof" cards that are distributed at the door.

"I think Jenison Field House is one of the greatest places in the nation to play volleyball," Head Coach Chuck Erbe said. "In addition to watching some of the finest athletes in the nation, fans are treated to a great event at all of our home matches."
