Daune Koester is in her third season as an assistant coach on the Spartan staff. Koester works with all areas of the team, concentrating on outside hitters, defense, passing, arranges travel and coordinates the Spartans' annual camps.

Koester, a Detroit native, came to MSU after two years (1999-2000) as an assistant coach at Georgetown University, where she was responsible for all aspects of recruiting, travel coordination and served as the strength coach. The Hoyas were 43-18 overall during her tenure, and won the 1999 Big East Tournament championship and advanced to the 1999 NCAA Tournament. Prior to her time at Georgetown, Koester played professionally in Switzerland and trained in Jesi, Italy. She ran all practices for the Franches-Montagnes Junior Volleyball Program in Switzerland.

Koester was a standout performer for the University of Maryland volleyball team from 1993-96, twice serving as team captain. Maryland participated in two NCAA Tournaments (1995, 1996) during her playing career, completed an undefeated Atlantic Coast Conference season in 1996 and won the 1996 ACC Tournament title. The 1996 ACC Player of the Year, she was named to the ACC's 50th Anniversary Volleyball Team.

Koester worked as a student assistant coach for Maryland in 1997, as the squad become the 10th team in NCAA history to have an undefeated regular season (25-0).

Koester, who graduated from Maryland in 1998 with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology, has helped organize and coach summer camps at numerous universities. She is engaged to be married to Damon Rensing, an assistant men's soccer coach at Michigan State, on May 29, 2004.
