The Spartan women's golf team won the 2011 Big Ten Championship on April 24. MSU, who earned its ninth championship all-time, was led by top-5 finishes from Caroline Powers and Lindsey Solberg. Complete Release

Celebrate 2010
The MSU Athletics held Celebrate 2010 Weekend on Sept. 30-Oct. 2. The weekend included the Letter Jacket Ceremony, the Hall of Fame induction, the announcement of the Varsity S Awards and football's 34-24 win over Wisconsin. For more information, click here.

Breslin Center

REDSHIRT FRESHMAN (2010): Selected to represent USA at the USA Volleyball Open National Championships as a part of the U.S. National A2 Team, earning a silver medal at the competition ... Posted a freshman season which ranks amongst the all-time bests in Spartan history ... Ended the season ranked fourth in program history as a freshman with 109 block assists and total blocks with 127 (18-109) to lead the team on the year ... Ranks sixth as a freshman with 18 solo blocks on the year, a team-best tally ... Recorded a career-best 12 total blocks in MSU's 3-0 upset win over No. 19 Michigan (11/24), a mark with ranks tied for fourth all-time in program history for a single-match performance ... Her 12 blocks against Wolverines is also the most recorded in school history in a three-set contest ... Posted a career-best 10 kills at Minnesota (11/13), against Michigan (11/24) and against Oakland (9/14) ... Tallied first double-double of career with kills and 12 blocks against Michigan (11/24) ... Recorded a career-high 35 attacks in MSU's five-set match at Minnesota (11/13) ... Led the team on the year with a 1.27 blocks per set mark, improving her tally to 1.29 for conference contests ... Named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Nov. 29 after averaging 2.12 blocks per set and 1.88 kills against Michigan (11/24) and Northwestern (11/26) to wrap-up the season ... Earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors on Nov. 22 after a 1.78 blocks per set average hosting Indiana (11/19) and Purdue (11/20) along with a 1.33 kills per set mark.

HIGH SCHOOL: Three-year letterwinner at Renaissance High School under head coach Louis Mitchell ... Helped her team to win the Detroit Public School League Championship in 2007 and helped them earn runner-up honors in 2008 ... Named to the all-area and all-region team in 2008 ... Was the team's Most Outstanding Player in 2006 and the Offensive Player of the Year in 2007 ... Was featured in ESPN Rise in the "Got Game" segment in October.
PERSONAL: Daughter of Edrick and Andrea Mathews ... Born Jan. 23, 1991 ... Apparel and textile design major.

"Our focus during the 2009 season will be to develop Alexis' skill set with a redshirt season. She already has all of the physical tools to be a very good player, but with a redshirt year under her belt, Mathews will gain both the awareness and skills to become a top-level player in the conference."
