EAST LANSING, Mich. - Spartan volleyball held its annual Green and White game on Saturday, Aug. 18 at Jenison Field House. The Green team, compiled by captain Kori Moster, defeated the White, 3-1. For the second straight season, head coach Cathy George had her captains select the two squads, and junior Kristen Kelsay selected the White team.

"It is great to get out here and finally play," head coach Cathy George said. "We had the draft and I thought the teams were even. I thought we played up tight early and I think both teams started to relax and get into a rhythm and fought hard to win. You could see the rallies be extended as the match went on and the gloves were off."

Newcomer Lauren Wicinski, led both teams with 20 kills in the match playing for the Green and Team Kori.

The teams split the first two sets by the same score, 25-18, before the Green took control in the third.

The Green and Team Kori were trailing 19-15 and needed a rally to fend off the White. Team Kori scored eight consecutive points and took the third set, 25-20.

Sophomore Taylor Galloway had six kills in the fourth set for Team Kori and they sealed the match with a 25-20 victory.

Michigan State had honorary coaches for the second straight season. Women's tennis coach Simone Jardin coached the White team and strength and conditioning coach, Molli Munz coached the Green, along with athletic trainer Lianna Hadden.

"I love having the guest coaches, I really enjoy it," George said. "They're out here and get to find out what it's like and get to know our team. Simone, being a tennis coach, her insight was very interesting with that correlation and seeing what we could add to our game."

Michigan State is back in action next weekend, Aug. 24-25, when it hosts the Spartan Showcase at Jenison Field House. The Spartans first match will be Friday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m., against McNeese State.
