The teams traded the first and second sets. Team Green won the opener by a commanding 25-12 advantage, and White turned the tables with a 25-23 win in set two. In the third and final set, the white team jumped out to a 9-2 lead, built it to 17-11 before the Green team fought back with a 5-0 run to cut it to a one-point game, forcing White into a timeout. Green got a kill from Holly Toliver out of the timeout to tie the game, then pulled ahead for the first time in the game with a stuff at the net from Allyssah Fitterer. In all, the Green team had a 10-point run to erase a significant deficit and scored 14 of the final 15 points of the set to take a 25-18 win in the final set to earn a 2-1 match victory.
Fitterer had four kills in each of the first two sets, and had two in the third to finish the match with 10 kills and blocks. Freshman Holly Toliver led all scorers with 11 kills on 41 swings, and added six digs, a service ace, and one block. Jazmine White had two kills and a six blocks, while Kristen Muir played libero for the green squad and had 13 digs. DS Ryian Hubbard had three service aces in the opening set and finished her afternoon with four, while freshman setter Rachel Minarick had 25 assists.
For the white team, Taylor Galloway had four of her six kills in the second set, adding nine digs. Brooke Kranda had six kills, two blocks, and two digs, Kori Moster had 14 digs, and Halle Peterson had 15 assists.
The team will have three final days of practice in East Lansing before it heads to Birmingham, Alabama next weekend to participate in the UAB/Samford Invitational.
