No. 16 MSU Upset by Michigan
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Michigan took advantage of a sluggish Michigan State passing game and handed the No.16-ranked Spartans a 13-15, 15-9, 15-3, 15-9 loss Friday night in Big Ten Conference Volleyball action at Ann Arbor's Cliff Keen Arena.
Hitting stats were equal for the two cross-state rivals, 66 kills for MSU and 65 for U-M, but it was Michigan's ability to capitalize on its 10 service aces and passes off Spartan attack attempts which proved the difference. U-M oudug the Spartans, 66-55 and held a 12.5-11 advantage in blocks.
MSU dropped to 11-5 overall, 1-2 in the Big Ten. The 2,346 fans in attendance as part of the "Rock the House VI" promotion is a Michigan volleyball record.
Michigan State's Jenna Wrobel led all match hitters with 24 kills while Christie Landry finished with six blocks.
