Women's Volleyball Defeats Northwestern
EVANSTON, Ill.-The Michigan State volleyball team defeated Northwestern, 15-6, 12-15, 15-10, 15-6 in welsh-Ryan Arena on sunday.
In game one, the Spartans took the lead on their first possession and never relinquished, winning 15-6. Northwestern surprised MSU in game two, tying the game four times before taking the lead for good, winning 12-15. State came back in game three to win 15-10 and won the match with game four, 15-6.
Leading the way for MSU was Junior Jenna Wrobel with 15 kills and five digs and six blocks. Senior Veronica Morales continued her strong season with eight kills and 11 digs. She moved into third place on the MSU all-time digs list with 1,250 career digs. Freshman Christie Landry had an excellent match, tallying 14 kills and seven blocks.
Michigan State is now 12-5 on the season, 2-2 in the BIG TEN Conference. The Spartans return to action on tuesday, Oct. 7, scrimmaging against the USA Volleyball National team at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids.
