Michigan State Drops Match Against Minnesota
MINNEAPOLIS--The Michigan State women's volleyball team dropped it's match 3-1 against the University of Minnesota after taking the first game 15-7. The match started off well enough for the Lady Spartans who beat the Gophers with a steady barrage of hard hitting offense infront of the 3,152 fans on hand.
Despite the outstanding play of Spartan setter Christie Landry (51 assists) and MSU hitters Jonna Wrobel (20 kills), Veronica Morales (18 kills) and Corie Richard (11 kills) the Spartans were uable to get the upperhand in the match. Minnesota rebounded to take three games straight 15-13, 15-8 and 15-11.
The Gophers were led to the win by the steady setting of Becky Bauer and offense in the form of a match-leading 24 kills from Nicole Branagh. Minnesota's Linda Shudlick (14 kills), Sonje Posthume (12 kills) and Sarah Pearman (10 kills) also contibuted to the win. Minnesota improved it's record to 22-7 overall and 12-6 in the Big Ten.
The Spartans move to 20-10 overall and 10-7 in Big Ten play.
