East Lansing, Mich. - - Michigan State volleyball coach Cathy George has announced her team's spring schedule for 2014. MSU will have four days of competition in March and April, culminating in a home tournament on April 12.
"We lost four seniors to graduation, and all were significant contributors to our success last season. That opens up a lot of opportunities for our returning players," said George. "As a staff, we've been really pleased with how our players have approached our spring sessions and practices. They understand the opportunities in front of them, and what our goals are. They are working hard, and getting these games in our spring schedule will really help us move toward our 2014 fall season."
MSU will play its first spring match on Saturday, March 22 in Grand Rapids at Cornerstone University, as part of the Grand Rapids Hall of Fame Volleyball Showcase event. MSU will play Western Michigan at 4 p.m., followed by a match between Michigan and Notre Dame at 6 p.m. All four teams will sign autographs as part of the event.
The Spartans will play in Chicago on Saturday, March 29 at the Great Lakes Center Invitational, where MSU will take on Southern Illinois and UW-Milwaukee. More games may be added before this tournament begins as well.
Indianapolis' Capital Sports Center Tournament will take place on Saturday, April 5, and MSU is one of 14 teams which will compete. Other teams are Ball State, Purdue, Kent State, Illinois, Ohio State, Univ. of Indianapolis, Kentucky, Xavier, IUPUI, Lipscomb, Indiana, Western Kentucky, and West Virginia.
MSU will wrap up its spring season with a home tournament on Saturday, April 12, when the Spartans host IPFW, Akron, Kent State, GVSU, and Ferris State at Jenison Field House.
