East Lansing, Mich. - - Michigan State volleyball kicks off its spring season on Saturday with an event at Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids. The spring season is for returning players only, as the veterans begin to assume new roles in looking forward towards the 2014 season.
"Ive been really happy with what I have seen in our players this spring," said head coach Cathy George. "Everyone has a great attitude, they are bringing energy and enthusiasm to what we're doing. These spring matches allow us to get in and see some of the emerging roles from our returning players.
Also, it gets a little repetitive every day in the gym, playing only against one another. They are competitors, and want to be tested and play other schools and programs. We have a great spring schedule that will allow us to do that."
Saturday's event at Cornerstone brings in six programs to play three games. At 4 p.m., Grand Rapids Community College will play Davenport, while host Cornerstone will take on Aquinas. The Spartans will take the court at 6 p.m. to play Western Michigan. Before the MSU-WMU match, Spartan players will sign autographs, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
