Toliver Selected for U.S. Collegiate National Team
Rising senior will participate in USAVB U.S. Collegiate National Team-Minneapolis in June
East Lansing, Mich. - Rising senior Holly Toliver (Berrien Springs, Mich.) has been selected as part of USA Volleyball's U.S. Collegiate National Team-Minneapolis (CNT-Minneapolis) program. The selected individuals were announced on Monday by USA Volleyball.
The CNT-Minneapolis squad, which is part of USA Volleyball's High Performance pipeline and is considered a second tryout for the U.S. Women's National Team, will train from June 22-26 at the University of Minnesota. Afterward, the athletes will be assigned to one of three 12-member teams and compete in a round-robin format at the Minneapolis Convention Center from June 27-30. The matches are being held in conjunction with the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships under the same roof. Toliver is one of eight Big Ten athletes in the CNT-Minneapolis pool.
Toliver enjoyed the first healthy campaign of her collegiate career as a junior in 2016, appearing in all 34 matches and playing in 116 of a possible 117 sets, sharing the team high. She was second in the Big Ten in aces per set (0.36), while averaging 1.95 digs and 1.32 kills per frame.
"Holly has earned a fantastic opportunity and we are thrilled," said head coach Cathy George. "She's grown so much over the last few years and this chance to test herself over the summer against other high-level players will give her even more of a chance to prepare for what we feel will be a big senior year for her."
"I'm really thankful for this opportunity to represent Michigan State," noted Toliver. "It's exciting to represent your program at the next level, and doing so in a Team USA jersey will make the experience that much better. I felt like I was able really test myself through tryout process, and to further challenge myself will be a great way to prepare for my upcoming season."
Earlier this year USA Volleyball named its CNT-Thailand and CNT-Europe rosters. Athletes in the three CNT program were selected through the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts held March 3-5 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
