EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State volleyball team has released the schedule for the 2003 season, the program announced Thursday afternoon (May 22).

The Spartans travel to four tournaments to open the non-conference portion of the schedule before playing their first home match, the Big Ten opener, Sept. 26 vs. Penn State. The Spartans will host a total of 10 matches - all against Big Ten teams - at Jenison Field House this season. The annual Alumni/"Green & White" match is scheduled for Aug. 23 at 6:30 p.m.

MSU is scheduled to face 14 teams that reached the NCAA Tournament last season. The Green and White begin the 2003 slate at the Maryland Tournament Aug. 29-30. The Spartans will then face five NCAA Tournament teams the next two weekends, as they match up against South Carolina and North Carolina in Columbia, S.C. Sept. 5-6 before heading to Lincoln, Neb., Sept. 12-14 to play Nebraska, Santa Clara and Georgia Tech. MSU's last tournament is at American University in Washington, D.C. Sept. 20.

Michigan State will play its first four Big Ten matches at Jenison Field House and eight of the first 12 are at home. The Spartans conclude the regular season Nov. 29 at Illinois.

The NCAA Tournament opens Dec. 5, and the Final Four will be held Dec. 18-20 in Dallas, Texas.
