EAST LANSING, Mich. - Four members of the Michigan State volleyball program are taking part in the 2013 U.S. Women's National Volleyball A2 Program in Dallas, Texas. On Thursday afternoon, after three days of training, the student-athletes and coaches were broken down into four teams - Gold, Red, White and Blue - for competition which will run June 29-July 3.
A different Spartan will represent each team, as rising senior Alexis Mathews was selected to the Gold team, classmate Lauren Wicinski was picked to the White squad, rising junior Kori Moster will play for the Red team and MSU assistant coach Mike Gawlik will be an assistant for the Blue team.
The four teams will compete against each other in round-robin pool play June 29- July 1, playing one best-of-five match each day. At the conclusion of pool play, the four teams will be seeded for the July 2-3 playoff matches.
Mathews and Wicinski were invited to the A2 program last year, while it is the first experience for Gawlik and Moster. The Spartans are one of 12 schools to have multiple selections and trail only Purdue who has four selections.
