Volleyball Hits The Court For Annual Green And White Scrimmage

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Spartan fans had their first chance to see the 2006 team in action as the Michigan State volleyball team competed in a best-of-five intrasquad match on Saturday at Jenison Field House.
"This match was a great opportunity for our team to get on the court and compete," Michigan State head coach Cathy George said. "I was very pleased with the intensity level and also with the preparation we put into the match. I thought the effort of our entire team was very strong and our newcomers showed they are ready to play at the collegiate level."
Junior outside hitter Katie Johnson posted a match-high 34 kills, senior setter Allison Ianni tallied 42 assists and eight kills, while freshman setter Katie Vander Meer added 29 assists and six kills for the match. Defensively, libero Nicole Colaluca tallied a match-high 20 digs, while sophomore Melany Rarey added 13 digs and two aces at the service stripe.
Michigan State opens the 2006 season against IPFW on Aug. 25, when it competes at the Ball State Nike/Active Ankle Weekend, Aug. 25-26, in Muncie Ind. The Spartans open their home season at the Spartan Invitational, Sept. 1-2, at Jenison Field House.
