Kori Moster Named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Sophomore Kori Moster has been named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the Big Ten office on Monday, Sept. 3. This is Moster's second defensive player of the week honor during her career and was recognized last season on Oct. 24, 2011.

Moster helped the Spartans win the University of Connecticut Classic this past weekend, sweeping Fairfield, Dartmouth and Connecticut. Moster collected MVP honors at the tournament and notched 5.8 digs per set over the weekend and also had seven service aces.

Against Fairfield, Moster opened the tournament with 22 digs and two service aces in the match and averaged 7.3 digs per set.

Moster and the Spartans gave up only 35 points against Dartmouth, setting the school record for the least points allowed in the three-set match. Moster had 14 digs, three service aces and four assists in the match.

In the championship match against Connecticut, Moster recorded 16 digs and had two more service aces in a 3-0 win over the Huskies.

The Cincinnati, Ohio, native and the Spartans, host the Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational this weekend at Jenison Field House. Michigan State will host IPFW on Friday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. and both Albany and Georgia on Sept. 8 at 12 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. respectively.
