East Lansing, Mich. - Michigan State senior Lauren Wicinski (Geneva, Ill.) has been named the Big Ten Volleyball Player of the Week, as announced by the Conference office on Monday afternoon (Oct. 7). It is the third time this season that the outside hitter has captured the weekly honor, and second straight. This week, she shares the honor with Nebraska outside hitter Kelsey Robinson.
Wicinski and Robinson represent the sole unbeaten teams in Big Ten play, and Saturday will serve as a showcase for the Big Ten Co-Players of the Week when the Spartans host Nebraska at 7 p.m. at Jenison Field House. MSU hosts Iowa Friday at 7 p.m., while Nebraska has a date with Michigan prior to the engagement in East Lansing.
Wicinski led all players in both matches last weekend in kills, hitting .517 on Friday with 18 kills in a sweep of Illinois. On Saturday, she compiled 19 kills, and hit .452 in a sweep of Northwestern. On the weekend, Wicinski posted four service aces, six blocks and 11 digs, while hitting .483 (37-8-60) over the two matches.

MSU (15-1, 4-0 Big Ten) is off to its best start since the 1996 season. MSU has won three straight matches by 3-0 scores, and 12 total in the 2013 campaign. The Spartans have won 13 consecutive matches dating back to the opening tournament at Virginia Tech - the sixth-longest winning streak in program history. MSU's longest streak is 21 games, set in 1995.
