East Lansing, Mich. - - Michigan State senior setter Kristen Kelsay (Wheaton, Ill.) has earned Academic All-District honors, as announced on Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Kelsay now advances onto the national ballot with the other pool of winners from each of the eight districts.
Kelsay, a senior psychology major, boasts a 3.85 cumulative GPA. She has twice earned Academic All-Big Ten distinction as well as Distinguished Scholar honors, and will likely earn both as a senior as well. Kelsay is a MSU's recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, and is a part of the Professorial Assistantship program through the MSU Honors College. She is also one of nine students on campus (and the only varsity athlete) being filmed throughout the semester for a part in the 2013 President's Report, to document a student's first-hand experience of campus life.
On the court, Kelsay is in her second year as a captain and fourth year as a starter for the Spartan volleyball team, which advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2012 and is currently ranked 13th in the country with an 18-6 overall record. Kelsay currently ranks sixth all-time in the MSU record book in career assists.
