EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State volleyball's Kim Schram was named to the 2003 American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA) All-Mideast Region team, it was announced Wednesday. The junior outside hitter from London, Ontario, was the Spartans' only all-region selection, and now has the opportunity to earn All-America honors.

This is the second post-season honor for Schram, as she was named first-team All-Big Ten on Dec. 3. MSU's last AVCA all-region selection was Angela Morley in 2002.

Schram had a team-best 558 kills on the season, and posted double-doubles (kills-digs) in six matches this year, the most of any Spartan. She hit .277 on the year, with 75 total blocks. She posted a season-best 32 kills against Tennessee on Aug. 30, and had a string of nine matches with at least 19 kills that lasted from Oct. 18-Nov. 15. Schram hit double-digit kills totals in all but three matches this year.

"I think this is a great honor for Kim," said head coach Chuck Erbe. "It's a tribute to the effort she has put in, and the significant role she played for us this year."

The Spartans finished the year 19-12 overall and sixth in the Big Ten Conference with a 11-9 record. They made their 10th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament last week, and lost to Dayton in the first round, 3-2.
