EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's cross country team will compete at the Notre Dame Invitational this Friday (Oct. 1) in Notre Dame, Ind. The Blue Division 5K race will start at 4:15 p.m.

Along with the Spartans and the fourth-ranked Fighting Irish, other nationally-ranked teams scheduled to compete in Friday's meet include: Stanford (1st), Michigan (6th), UCLA (12th), Butler (T-19th), Missouri (23rd), William & Mary (24th) and Oklahoma (27th).

Freshman Danette Doetzel (Macklin, Sasketchewan) led the Michigan State women with her first-place finish (20:52) at the Spartan Invitational on Sept. 17. The Spartans are heading into Friday's meet with a No. 22 ranking in this week's FinishLynx/NCAA Division I poll.

"The ND Invitational will be a great test for our team this Friday," said Michigan State women's coach Rita Arndt-Molis. "Nine of the 22 teams competing are nationally ranked (top 30), so we'll get a good look at some of our competitors beyond the Big Ten level."

At last season's Notre Dame Invitational, redshirt sophomore Michelle Rafferty (Carmel, Ind) was the top finisher for MSU's partial squad in the women's race, placing 15th with a time of 18:41. The Spartans finished 13th out of 17 teams at the meet.

The Spartans will next compete at the Pre-NCAA Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 11 a.m.
