Terre Haute, Ind. - The Michigan State women's cross country team returns to action this weekend, following a sixth-place finish at the Notre Dame Invitational on Sept. 30, when they travel to the campus of Indiana State University for the Pre-NCAA Invitational. Junior Michelle Rafferty (Carmel, Ind.) was the Spartans top finisher in that meet, posting a 17:30 5K to finish 18th.

Last season the Green and White finished fifth in Terre Haute after scoring 218 points in the process. Junior Katie Kelly (Port Austin, Mich.) is the top returning finisher for MSU; Kelly finished thirteenth with a time of 20:56.1. Rafferty was 26th in 21:13.2. Junior Brittany Ballard (Midland, Mich.) and sophomores Nicole Bush (Wyoming, Mich.) and Lisa Senakiewich (Davison, Mich.) also scored in that meet for Michigan State.

MSU 17th nationally in the FinishLynx Division I rankings, will compete in the white division, starting at 12:55 p.m. Also in the white race are Big Ten rivals Illinois and Michigan. Competing in the blue race are conference foes Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Purdue and Wisconsin. Overall, 77 teams will figure in the 2005 Pre-Nationals meet.

The Spartans used last season's strong showing at the Pre-NCAA meet as a springboard en route to a second-place finish at the Big Ten Championships and a 14th place finish in Terre Haute at the NCAA Championship Meet.
