EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Seniors Michelle Carson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Jason Mueller (Shelby, Ohio) have been named the Big Ten Cross Country Athletes of the Week, the league office announced Oct. 15. It marks the third consecutive week Carson has earned Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors and the seventh time in her career, while Mueller wins the award for the first time in his career.

At last week's Michigan Intercollegiate, Carson finished as the top runner in the women's 6K race with a time of 21:17. The women's team finished the race in first place, with four of the top five runners scoring 17 points. Mueller finished as the top runner in the men's 8K race with a time of 24:52. The men's team finished in second place, with four of the top 20 runners scoring 69 points.

Last season, Carson earned All-American honors while being named 2002 All-Great Lakes Regional team, All-Big Ten (first team) and Big Ten Cross Country Athlete of the Year. Mueller earned Academic All-Big Ten honors a year ago.

The Michigan State cross country teams will compete next at the Bronco Invitational hosted by Western Michigan, on Friday, Oct. 17 at at 4 p.m. and the Pre-NCAA Invitational hosted by Northern Iowa, Saturday, Oct. 18 at 10 a.m.
