Chicago, Ill. - Michigan State senior Brittany Ballard (Midland, Mich.) was selected as a 2005 Big Ten Sportsmanship Honoree on Wednesday, Nov. 2 by the league offices. Ballard has competed in four of MSU's six races this season and has been one of the Spartan's most consistent runners this year.

 

She finished 20th in her season opening race at the Spartan Invitational, on Oct. 16, with a time of 22:11.0. The following week at the Notre Dame Invitational Ballard helped lead the team to an sixth place standing while posting a 17:55.0, good enough for 55th overall. The senior was 41st at the Pre-NCAA meet in Terre Haute, Ind., with a 21:30.0, finishing second amongst MSU runners that day. Last weekend, Ballard geared up for the post-season by running a season best 22:02.0 at the Big Ten Championship, finishing 26th.

 

Ballard, an All-Academic Big Ten selection in 2003, and the Spartans return to racing action when they travel to the Great Lakes Regional Championship on Nov. 12. The race will be hosted by conference rival Indiana, in Bloomington.
