Softball Drops Game One To Iowa

CALEDONIA, Mich. – Michigan State softball was defeated by Iowa in game one of a three-game B1G series on Friday afternoon, falling 14-2 from the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex on the campus of Davenport University.
Michigan State's series against the Hawkeyes was moved to Davenport following flooding on the banks of the Red Cedar and Old College Field.
The Spartans fall to 11-18 overall and 1-6 in Big Ten play this season, while Iowa improves to 23-15 and 5-4 in conference action.
Sophomore Faith Guidry (2-6) drew the start for the Spartans pitching 2.2 innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs (six unearned), while walking two and striking out one. Junior Ashley Miller pitched in relief tossing 2.1 innings allowing two hits and one unearned run, striking out three.
All four Spartan pitchers came into game one with sophomore Madison Taylor pitching in relief of Miller. Taylor pitched 1.1 innings allowing three hits and one earned run (two unearned) while striking out one. Junior Ashlyn Roberts recorded the final two outs of the contest.
Senior Kendall Kates had the only Spartan hit through four innings until a fifth inning that saw seniors Jessica Mabrey and Kennedy Wyllie, and sophomore Macy Lee record hits for MSU. Lee and junior AJ Militello each drove in a run for Michigan State. Kates stole her first base of the season.
